Review on πŸ’‘ Efficient Monitoring of 220VAC DC12V Industrial Transformer with Supply (SMPS) by Lloyd Rodriguez

Add some big heatsinks and you're close to rated power

This is so cheap. I disassembled the block for quality control. I found some nearly shorted wires, flux and a few solder joints. If the transistor mounts are bent or the screws are loose, this power supply will quickly overheat under load. I screwed the extra heatsinks to the back and left side. I used some rectangular pieces to attach the PSU to the base, they raise the unit from the base by about 15mm which greatly improves cooling. Without a heatsink, the power supply would not be able to deliver half of its rated current before going into protection.
