Mixed color storage!

Many years have passed since I painted by numbers. Growing up, I made them all the time. What memories! The kitchen table, the scent of our Christmas tree filled the house, the snow outside the window, 2 weeks of vacation and my new painting by numbers that Santa Claus brought me. Let's go back to today! The image is on an exact substrate, as it was many years ago. Durable and the image has been printed perfectly and is clearly visible. I started painting mine a few days ago. The paint is of very good quality, smooth and quite thick. The colors are beautiful, very earthy and saturated. I thought I would miss the oil paint I used in my day, but I don't miss it at all. Much easier to clean. So far I am very happy with the brush that came with it. I had no problem with it being too big for the areas I'm painting. I'm not out of line, but I feel like it makes the picture mine. I think the trick is that the paint should only be applied to the tip of the brush and not too much paint. I usually touch the area of the number, which also helps cover the number and gives me an area to "dip" the brush into. Yes, I often resort to the paint bucket just because I don't want to overload my brush. The brush is easy to clean and holds the tip. I clean my brush frequently, even if I'm painting with the same color, it also keeps my lines clean. I made a paint stirrer out of a paperclip that I just bent. That means I don't have toothpicks and I dry them with a paper towel. Being able to mix our own colors goes a long way in personalizing everyone's image. A great idea! I read in some reviews that holding mixed colors was a problem. Mix just enough to make a painting to keep the color even and to keep it fresh and moist. So while waiting for delivery, I thought about what I could use. Pill planners came to mind, so I bought a few. I painted each of the "doors" and it works great and keeps my mixed paints from drying out. I've attached an image to show what I did. I've seen pill planners for sale at my local dollar store - two for $1, they're available here at Revain but slightly more expensive. Of course, they can be washed and saved for the next picture, and the letters above them can be changed. So it doesn't have to be a one-time purchase.

Pros
  • Follow the detailed color mixing instructions and other artistic techniques to make the final product look incredibly realistic.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
