Review on DIYmall Bme280 Pressure Temperature Arduino by David Cook

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Avoid: Replacement was bad and two original sensors failed

Update #3: These sensors are incompatible, poor quality, unreliable and do not provide reliable readings. A bme280 replacement from the same manufacturer, DIYMALL, gives even worse (i.e. wrong) readings than the previously bad sensor! Example: 2016-09-24 08:59 83.1 30.1 65.7 <- first bad sensor relative humidity. Barometric readings appeared normal. *but* Attention, *current* wx conditions were: 81F with 87% !*avoid* the sensors of these manufacturers! they are bad, I repeat, bad. They fail regularly and do not provide any results even in the vicinity. I retested these bmp180s which were top notch in terms of temp and barometric pressure. and I tested them against DHT22 - one of which was extremely accurate - while the other two were bad sensors sold by a bad seller - UPGRADE INDUSTRIES (avoid this seller). don't work. Last update: The second of these sensors, bme280, from Diymall, failed after 48 hours outdoors. Apparently both couldn't handle high temperatures (90F+) or high humidity (80%+) - the other interior works fine. ordered another batch to see if there is an anomaly. UPDATE: I did some comparison testing with other devices and found that the bme280 would read about 4F higher when used outdoors at 90F. Air pressure seems to be monitored with a bmp180 on hand. I will then run bme280 against DHT22 on a great device. Using Matt Hawkins' excellent bme280.py script, I was able to quickly integrate the output of this sensor connected to a Beaglebone Black and a MediaTek Wi-Fi dongle to quickly create a wireless environmental weather monitor. at home (indoors, outdoors, garage) and transmit data to a local web server on my home network - can also be used to set alarms or monitor the fridge that keeps my beer - for testing I have this sensor on an i2C -Bus powered by ssd1306 oled - I will do some tests with other sensors to measure accuracy

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
