I've been using this filter for 4 years and I love it! First of all, I recommend you to buy the filter directly from Epic on their website. They often run special offers and have a subscription program that automatically gives you a 10% discount. **** GOOD ADVICE TO LAST YOUR FILTER FASTER: **** After a while your filter will start to process water more slowly, especially if you live in a hard water area. This can still happen after a few weeks - too bad! When it gets too slow, here's what I do: - Unscrew the filter from the bottom of the water inlet tank and rinse with hot water. - If you can, put your pinky in one of the holes and feel the texture - it can feel smooth. I know it sounds sharp, but stay here with me. Pour some vinegar into 3 holes and fill them about 1/3 or 1/2 full. Pour hot water into the remaining holes until they are full. Take a small bottle brush and rub the walls in each of the 3 holes for 10-20 seconds each. When you're done, sprinkle in some baking soda. place in each of the 3 holes and let sizzle. Then wipe each hole again. Don't worry, we're almost done talking about holes. Drain everything and rinse well with hot water. Now put your pinky back in one of the holes and feel the texture on the sides - it should be rougher now. . I know, I know, this is getting a little personal now. But you and your filter already know each other well, everything is fine! - Screw the filter back onto the tank and add tap water as usual. Your filter should now filter the water faster. I have not tested this in a lab and am not a scientist but the water is still tasteless after doing this as if the filter was new. This process appears to remove the minerals that build up in the filter and does not appear to reduce the filter's effectiveness, but again, I'm no scientist. I was able to use this method to extend the life of the filter to the full 3+ months it was supposed to work for. I hope this helps some of you who are frustrated with slow filtering. This is a wonderful product and I am very grateful that I have better protection from fluoride and other harmful contaminants in tap water than with traditional filters.
