Heat is the enemy of everything in the computing world. This is no exception. These discs can heat up quickly, so be aware of what you will be using them for. For me this will be the storage for a database running on a Raspberry Pi. Write speeds are in the order of kilobytes per minute, so I have no shortage of these easily damaged drives. I am using a Sabrent MSATA USB enclosure. I have some from Sabrent and they make a solid product. The catch is that there is no drive cooling whatsoever. A metal box with no contact only traps air. With "clock hddtemp sata: /dev/sda" I get a 2 second disk temperature cycle. Let's start with 37 degrees idle. I upload a 2.4GB file to the hard drive, the download speed is constant, the hard drive heats up to 44 degrees Celsius. Oh, it's getting a little warmer. I immediately start making a copy of the file, until the copy is complete, the temperature of the disk reaches 49 Β° C. I let the drive cool down to idle temperature. I copied the file from the SSD to another drive. The temperature fluctuated around 44C. I seriously understand the limitations. It does not cope with copying large archives or films, but it is fast enough and seems stable in terms of speed in these parameters.
