Review on ๐ŸŠ StainlessLUX 73601 Brilliant Stainless Steel Juicer/Fruit Squeezer - Save on a Blemished Beauty! by Diana Mitchell

Only suitable for very ripe citrus

I use a lot of lemon and lime juice in cooking and baking and am used to squeezing citrus with my hands and scooping out the seeds then juicing. I did a little research on juicers and my choice fell between a stainless steel juicer like this one and a citrus juicer. I thought the advantage of this juicer over a press was that I could also use it to make freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juice every now and then. I chose this particular juicer from similar ones because it was the cheapest and because the tip looks sharp in the photos on the product page. When it arrived I was disappointed that the tip wasn't sharp in real life. I decided to try anyway. Like other reviewers, I also found that the lips have sharp edges. I didn't hurt myself, but this little juicer is definitely rough around the edges. The material is thinner than I expected. Despite this, the juicer itself is solid and can withstand some pressure. I think it does a good job of juicing very ripe citrus. First, I squeezed a ripe lemon. A few tiny seeds went through the trellis but caught all the big ones. Like other reviewers, I also found that it didn't get all the juice out of the lemon and that I had to go back a few times to get everything. I squeezed two small ripe oranges and basically had the same experience as the lemon, only to my surprise some of the juice also stuck to the grate. I was also disappointed to learn how little juice can be extracted from hand squeezing oranges. However, this is not the fault of the juicer. I had a lot more trouble squeezing limes that were soft but not very ripe like other fruits I squeezed. The point wasn't sharp enough to pierce the fruit, so I made two cuts in half before trying to squeeze out the juice. Cutting corners helped initially, but still required a lot of pressure from me. I also found that if I didn't level the chalk perfectly, it would slide off. I had to squeeze four limes and ended up squeezing the last two by hand and found it more effective and less painful than using this juicer. I'm going to return mine and get a citrus juicer to make cooking and baking a little easier (and give my hands a rest). I will refrain from making homemade orange juice until I have a powerful blender that can grind everything into a powder and I can drink the pulp as well.
