Our old fridge had original copper pipes with no filter. The ice cream tasted awful so we didn't use the ice machine for 13 years. I ordered this filter along with a 5ft ¼" PEX line. I removed the old copper pipe and attached the new pipe to the floor outlet and fridge inlet, cut it down the middle and attached the correct end of the filter to the outlet. Then I held the filter over the 5 gallon bucket, turned on the water valve and let it run for a minute until the water ran clear.This is a requirement for a new filter.I then connected the other end of the hose to the filter ", turned the water back on, and lo and behold, there were no leaks. It was 3 months ago. The filter still works great and the ice tastes damn good. Well, it's just the taste of pure, pure water. I have too ordered a bracket for it and mounted it on a cupboard next to the fridge so it doesn't just sit on the floor.I will buy this filter again when the water starts to taste weird.
