you get what you pay for. I bought these for a 3 day hike in New Hampshire including Mount Washington. There were breaks in the chain that were easily restored with pliers. We walked on solid 1-3" ice/snow and rocks which most likely caused the damage. In general I'm very happy. I couldn't complete these early summer hikes with all the snow on top. On the other hand they are almost identical to the micro spikes from Kahtoola which can be found here http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Spikes-855333000 -Kahtoola-MICROspikes/dp/B0030I3Y48 A buddy used them on a road trip and there is a noticeable difference in the metal /Build Quality Conclusion: If you are a serious traveler and want something durable, it's better to pay a little more, otherwise they're perfect.
