Review on Torin Hydraulic Transmission Floor Jack by Kyle Ross

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great tool for the money

Well the jack arrived in a rather torn box (as mentioned in many other reviews). In addition, the jack itself was very clean and fully assembled. I was a little surprised at how clean it was considering I bought a little used. I found the chain quite cumbersome to use, so I actually decided not to use anything to jack the gearbox to the jack (a bit risky, but I made sure to keep one hand on the gearbox while lifting it) . However, if I really needed a way to attach the transmission to the jack, I would use one of my ratchet tie-down straps. In general, the jack performed very well. However, when using it, I encountered two problems. [Problem #1] - The jack sits slightly higher in the front than the photos suggest. My jack could only lift my car about 2 feet off the ground, but I had to get it 9 inches higher before I had enough room to roll the jack with the transmission under the car. . To work around this problem I had to place the transmission on my jack, roll it under the truck, then roll the jack under the truck, raise the jack to the same height as the front of the transmission jack and slide the transmission off the jack onto the Transmission Jack (This task was a lot easier said than done!). [Problem #2] - The 2 front "pivot arms" on the black front panel had to be removed as they were in contact with the truck frame cross member and preventing me from sliding the gearbox. all the way to the back of the engine. In addition to the 2 problems described above, I haven't encountered anything out of the ordinary. The ability to tilt the gearbox up or down at the front and rotate the entire unit clockwise or counter-clockwise has really made one of the most difficult installation tasks that much easier. This product is really for those who work on cars a few times a week at most. This is a great tool for those who love the weekend. With that in mind, I think this is a great tool for the money. However, I would not recommend it for a full service transmission shop that needs a strong jack for frequent/continuous use.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
