Even if I remove the protective comb AND I have a second pair of hands to press the seam on the inseam of a pair of jeans - the tool is very difficult to get to the seam. The wire cutters perfectly cut the thread I am holding in the air. You just can't get to the seam without a fight. In a test involving two people - one holding the seam and the other cutting it at high speed - the hand ripper outperformed this device by a mile. It can work well for some things, but not a jean seam. The difference in depth between the movable and stationary knives is too great for them to enter a narrow joint. If it were redesigned so that the movable and fixed incisors were the same length, it could work. I also think this change combined with fewer incisors (and therefore narrower overall) would have given him a better chance of digging into the suture. I sent it back - wish I liked it.
