I had the same problems as the first reviewer with the Flotek whole house water filter. Maybe you can unscrew the housing and change the filter yourself once or twice, but more than that - forget it! No matter how carefully you tighten the block when changing the filter, it will inevitably get stuck and your only alternative is to call a plumber who will eventually have to replace or bypass the block. Flotek customer service is of no practical use to customers if the housing is stuck and you cannot change the filter. My guess is that since they know the unit is defective it will become blocked making a filter change impossible and there is little that can be done other than replacing the whole block - the casing and all! However, they continue to sell it to unsuspecting homeowners.
