Because I'm allergic to nickel, I need a coated needle so my fingers don't break, chip, or bleed from the nickel. Gold plated needles are a problem because gold wears out very quickly. Platinum coated needles seem to retain their coating longer. I couldn't find a local source to buy these needles.
