excitedly unwrapped it yesterday and it was a total FAILURE. I recently bought an express brewer at home and needed a scale with multiple functions (1) accurate to at least 0.5g (2) the ability to accurately tare a portafilter to measure grind before a shot is brewed (3) a timer to check the espresso brewing time. In theory, this scale would have all of these qualities for a reasonable price. After unpacking, I was initially satisfied with the processing quality and the accessories. but that was where all the jubilation ended. This scale essentially doesn't do the scale's job even remotely accurately. After the portafilter is tared, the numbers jump wildly, changing by up to 2g in each direction. Don't even think about getting accurate readings while grinding because the scale can't stay at zero even for a few seconds. I've experimented with placing an empty portafilter on and off the weigh platform with and without the silicone mat, with and without the plastic bowl, and not once has it failed to zero and hold the tare. Not once has he given me the same tare weight for a portafilter. It ranged up to 3 g. It is absolutely unacceptable that this most basic function of the scale should not work. My old JC-400 scale is now back in the espresso range, the portafilter weighs 437.5g every time! I've just noticed that almost all 1* reviews have been posted in the last few months, so I'm wondering if anything has changed in production? Such a shame. ** I have attached a video showing all the jumps and weight fluctuations. I've compared it to a scale I've had for many years and it still works great. I wanted to leave this scale in the kitchen for weighing ingredients for cooking and get a flatter scale for the espresso range.
