I'm the type of person who eats and drinks in front of my computer and uses my desk space to play around with other things. I lazily decided not to move the rug beforehand and in my opinion it was very well received. I've used it as a trivet, gotten tomato sauce, assorted sprinkles, soda, tea, WD-40 and other oils, and tool cleaner, and it's held up well despite my excessive neglect. So far I've only cleaned it with water and a towel. I hope his car is safe from handling it but I've had it for 4 months now and it's still nice. I very much agree with this product.
