Accurate, Inexpensive Digital Food Thermometer

I know my way around digital thermometers, and when Taylor's cheap thermometer stopped working, I thought of the $100 Thermoworks Instant Reader. I bought this device because of the dual sensor feature, the good reviews and the price. I was skeptical about the accuracy of a cheap thermometer and checked the calibration first. At an altitude of 500 feet and a barometer of 30.06 inches of mercury, the estimated boiling point of water is 211.36 degrees Fahrenheit. Both gauges were within a few tenths of that, so I'm sure the thermometer is accurate. I haven't tested it in an ice water bath, but it agrees with other thermometers at room temperature. Note: The instructions that came with the thermometer say to calibrate at 32 degrees, but when you press the 'Calibration' button the display shows 212. no big thing. I use the corded probe daily and having to unplug and plug the probe back in to turn it on is inconvenient. I prefer the on/off switch. Another downside is setting the alarm temperature with tiny knobs. Not that it matters, the alarm isn't very loud. When within two feet of you, it sounds like you're in the next room. While not a true instant reading, the two to three second time is better than most inexpensive thermometers. Overall, I'm happy with my $24 purchase.
