Serves its purpose but has some flaws. I've pierced myself in the past and with this set I got myself a tragus and conch. Best of all, the needles are so sharp that I felt nothing but a slight pressure when they were pricked. I didn't use anything for the numbness, but it was easy. The kit comes with everything you need for the piercing, but the big problem is that the jewelry isn't long enough for the initial healing period. My ear isn't even swollen, but the piece fits snugly and shouldn't be. I ordered separate jewelry for a better healing process. Jewelry should also be marked for length and the pins should be the same size. There were 13g, 14g, 15g and 16g needles which is confusing and they don't all fit 14g and 16g jewelry to be pulled out easily.
