I was a little hesitant to buy these spatulas as they are thicker than I expected from a training spoon. My 7 month old is determined to eat alone and has actually boycotted my feeding so I desperately ordered these spoons along with some other spoons. Out of the box first impressions are that they are very well made but there is a strong smell - I've tried it, I've cleaned them a couple of times and it was still there so I ran under water for a while (I've noticed a coating similar to rinsing an apple), after that I put it in our sterilizer and the smell was gone. It scared me at first, but after the sterilization I felt better. And then the test - could my son hold it and bring it to his mouth - our other spoons, long and thin (which I thought was easier), always fell. out of his hands and he could not take hold of her. He put it in his mouth RIGHT SIDE on the first try - albeit sloppily - teaching himself how to eat. I can't wait to see how well he does with these spoons!
