Bolt on toilet seat

While these hinges are not identical (the design may have changed over the years, our hinges were open on the outside but otherwise literally identical inside configuration and placement) with the original hinges found in our Bemis Raritan PHII marine toilet seat, they were a direct replacement. As a result, the old hinges had to be removed and new ones installed, over the same holes in the seat and lid at just the right spacing. On ours, which had been installed in marine environments for several years, the screws holding the seat hinge were so rusty that I had to snap the rest of the hinge to grab the head of the screw, which broke off immediately when I smashed it with a Tried screwdriver , pliers and so on. The lid screws weren't stripped enough to get out without a fight. In all cases, however, the included screws were slightly larger than the original, and the sculpted holes in the hinges were MUCH closer together than the original. So, in preparation for the installation, I first used the plastic end of my screwdriver to smooth out a slight bulge in the wood where the original screws dragged on the surface when tightened. Upon carefully installing the new screws (backing them off, gently feeling the "click" as the threads line up, and from there) they cut in hard, but not so much that they were difficult to install. The slight difference in wheelbase didn't become an issue in the end as the molded holes under the receiver (the part where the screw head goes) were large enough to take up this play and all the screws fit. firmly and sits without drama. Excellent. New loops. No drilling! Let's install this seat! Well, since even marine toilets have a relatively large hole for the supplied nylon or similar screw to go in, the supplied screws slide down easily. This is where things got interesting, and the reason for that is only 4 stars. The nylon bolts were exactly what I expected as they weren't metal. The pitch and diameter of the screws were the same as in the previous set. But there were no heads and nuts. The included landing bolts were an unsuccessful attempt to match as the rest of the package is nearly identical. I installed them anyway, but the intrusion on the head, a pair of 1/4" Phillips (NOT Phillips) slots, was small enough that I could fit a solid flathead screwdriver into the slots. , they weren't strong enough to provide the necessary torque to keep the seat stable on the chair. Worse, like most toilets, the underside of the chair seat is tapered. The nuts provided had a slight shoulder - probably a VERY short one stroke to center the nut. No, not at all, not like that, at least with my toilet. In addition, when trying to stabilize the seat, the crosses of the screw heads twisted and became unusable. Even hold the screw (without effort, turning from above) and attempting to tighten them by hand (I have large hands and arm strength, so I apply enough force to the bolt when doing this) failed to stabilize the saddle. Luckily I was careful when removing the old saddle bolt kit. d (all the better to use more of your tool's surface area on the bolt head), which, even better, had a 1/2-inch hex nut and a tapered nut. Soon the seat was rock solid: I couldn't move it enough that I was afraid of new hinges if I pressed on it. It has proven to be stable in practical use. In summary, a great direct replacement for my Bemis Marine toilet seat. 5 Stars. Nice new slightly larger stainless steel screws to attach the hinges to the seat and lid. 5 stars Excellent value for money - especially as I knew from another reviewer that they would agree. 5 Stars. Durability - based on our use of the seat in question when fitted prior to buying the boat 15 years ago - is excellent despite its relatively small size. However, they broke with normal use. Hence only 3 stars are TERRIBLE seat bolts. Almost useless. If instead of stars it was a choice from a shit heap, he would have gotten it. Since there is no mode, neither zero stars nor 1 star. Please note that this is the only "real" complaint I have. I would recommend attaching a set of seat bolts with a large slot (so you can use a quarter on top) and/or a hex head and 45 degree cone nuts if you ever sit or twist the seat held with this set of loops. Otherwise two things will happen. The seat will inevitably move, which is a bit confusing. And you'll end up stressing the hinges so much that one of them breaks. We live on a boat and were outside of the US when this happened. The guest brought a replacement, which I sent to her home. This meant that even though I had spare hinges, I didn't have easy access to the other seat bolts. Luckily the ones I removed from the previous loops worked. If not, then as a guy with the belts and suspenders, I would also have a set of toilet seat screws in my toilet basket. But you can't. Be prepared to either have a real set handy or to try. Of course, if you want to combine orders, Revain has what it takes. The plastic replacement C200Hex comfort seat bolts and nuts for upper mounting, white, have the necessary means for secure tightening: an upper hex head and a fully tapered lower nut.
