They work great with my two dogs. One is 9 years old, the other 6 months. I watched several videos on how to train with this collar. I trained each dog individually, putting on the leash what they already knew, and then gradually replacing the leash with the collar commands. It only took a day and now they can enjoy the front yard off leash when we are outside. I keep vibration and shock to a minimum (which I felt in my palm before I started exercising - the hand twitches but doesn't hurt). I rarely use static. My dogs come back almost every time I give them a signal. The beep is very quiet, which I like because I only want them to hear it. The only thing I don't like is that dogs are easily confused and send signals to the wrong person. You need to look at the controller to make sure you're signaling to the right dog.
