Our cat needs this collar to prevent her belly hair from being plucked during feeding attempts due to possible food allergies. The collar should stay on her for a few weeks if not longer, so having something she can tolerate is very important. We all know how much they hate a hard diffuser, so I tried a soft diffuser first. The poor cat tripped over him and couldn't get around. Bought this item small (she is a 13 lb cat). While it effectively prevented her from reaching her stomach, it was too tight around her neck. The two open ends were still an inch or two apart when they were around her neck. Then I bought a medium. While the cat's medium size may appear large (it's a bit more difficult to maneuver with a large collar), it fits their neck. I really wish they would only make it specifically for cats so the neck size is medium and the tube size is small. Overall the environment works for us with a 13 lb cat. In any case, much better tolerated than soft or hard cones. She has been wearing it for 3 weeks now and can eat, drink, use the litter box. I've only trimmed her nails once in that time and there's no problem with her getting them pierced or blown off. Highly recommended. Update: It's been 6 weeks and the collar is still holding up fantastic. The middle one was definitely the right size as the little one was rubbing some bald spots on her neck from being too tight. She got used to the large size as the day wore on, and it seemed no more and no less bothered than the small one. Absolutely 100% recommended.
