The chain mail is scratched.
Mail will scratch stainless steel and may 'scratch' your spice on cast iron. Mail is sure to work with stainless steel, although the description does NOT say it will work. I was disappointed to find it had scratched my stainless steel instant pot and camping cook set. Everything else was kinda "wrong", the silicone grip doesn't fit very well and you can feel heat through it. Quantity is more important than quality. It would be better to buy chain mail with a silicone sponge inside.
