These little 'things' are great to extend the life of your colored pencils. (There were a few pieces in the pack that fell apart; however, there were 12 in the pack, so you can probably afford to lose a pair and still be fine.) They are adjustable with a small metal ring, which you pull back before inserting a colored pencil. You then simply press the ring against the end of the pencil to add tension so you can easily hold those short orphaned crayons you often encounter. Very easy. I find these little gadgets invaluable when trying to get the most out of your expensive crayons. They are definitely worth their price. (NOTE: I've only used them with Prismacolor crayons, so I can't comment on their compatibility with other brands of crayons.)
