I live between Austin and San Antonio. I bought a ClearStream 2V from Revain with no price check and paid $10 more than I should have and it works well passively, mounted about 15 feet off the ground in a good spot outdoors. Passively, with one of my test HDTVs plugged directly into a 60 foot [coax] cable, I got good reception on all major networks, with the PBS group being the weakest. Passively, however, he looked normal. I set up the antenna correctly using a good compass. If I use the CDA4 with the intention of running the same wiring as the spectrum cable, I get nothing. Nada. There are no channels powerful enough to break the threshold of Sony's Bravia and Samsung HDTVs. While conducting a test to make sure the CDA4 was working at all, he selectively turned off the entire PBS group with a 5-foot length of straight through coaxial cable. The rest was fine. Not better. So what's the point? The cable length from my cross-connect area to the two main units we prefer to use is about 20 and 30 feet, respectively. The Spectrum/TWC cable setup in the house doesn't use channel amplifiers, just a regular vanilla splitter to serve the two boxes. So this is a failure. Nice little mechanical package that reduces the value. I'm still "on the fence" about antenna. It looks like RCA or some other option might be better.
