Review on Philips SHE7000BK 28 Ear Headphones by Laura Rodriguez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Very thin sound suitable for in-ear headphones

I've heard literally dozens of in-ear headphones over the years. Most of them have a generally similar sound, never as smooth and consistent as a good pair of over-ear headphones, but they have their place for easy travel. I mainly use my headphones with an iPod Nano (postage stamp size) or to watch movies on my smartphone, so music quality is important to me. Music on each until I find the one that sounds best to me. It invariably goes back to the ones that came with my iPod. They have their disadvantages, above all they are relatively heavy for headphones and their design makes them prone to falling out, but I haven't found anything suitable for decent bass, clean mids and sparkling highs. Tried this Philips SHE7000. headphones and disappointed. Physically they look great and come with 3 sets of very soft ear tips that fit a variety of ear sizes. I heard them play "Dreamweaver" which starts with deep bass and high treble. I didn't hear any bass at all with these headphones unless I stuffed it unnaturally far into my ears. I tried all 3 button sizes but still no bass. At high frequencies everything is fine, not outstanding, but not bad either. However, when the vocals started, it sounded like he was singing into a tin can, very thin and distant. No amount of adjustment could improve the vocals, just no mids. Philips is a well-respected name and I have had several Philips headphones in the past. They never really impressed me that much, but not bad for the price. I'm hoping I received a defective pair and it's not what the manufacturer believes to be acceptable sound. With that in mind I can only give them 3 stars and close with a reminder that you get what you pay for.
