I've used a battery powered pepper mill for years and love it, but this mill was fully battery powered/motorized and only left room for a spoonful of pepper, had to so constantly refilled. Also, since it was a straight cylinder with all the batteries on top, it had a tendency to fall off. After enough had fallen on the floor I decided it was time to replace it. Everything that's wrong with my old pepper mill is done right with the FinaMill: the large pods don't have to be refilled as often AND they weigh down the bottom. The lower center of gravity and wider base make it less likely to fall off. The ability to easily switch between spices is a bonus. Spices retain much more flavor if left whole until you're ready to use them. One last thing I learned from my old coffee grinder: Use lithium batteries. By using lithium batteries instead of alkaline batteries, the grinding power is greatly increased and you don't have to change batteries as often.
