Review on Cotton Classics Multipack by Calvin Klein by Chris Vargas

Corporate greed at its finest

This review is long overdue. Coming from someone who has worn them as tank tops or messed with shirts almost daily for at least the last 15 years. They used to be great shirts, especially because they were made in Egypt and made from Egyptian cotton. They felt great from the start and got even more comfortable over time with repeated washings. Quality and durability were excellent. I often complain that I didn't restock those old CK t-shirts when they became available. It was pretty much the best t-shirt money could buy, and it was reasonably priced, retailing between $36 and $40 for a three-pack. A lot has changed since then a few years ago, and all for the worse. First, shirts are no longer made from Egyptian cotton, but from much lower quality cotton in Bangladesh or Haiti. Second, the screen print under the collar will wear off after a few washes. Thirdly, the collar itself is narrow and thin, after the first wash it is crumpled. Because of this, they can now only be used as undershirts, unless you don't mind walking around with mutilated collars. Sewing collars onto clothing also became drastically less expensive. The collars of Egyptian shirts were wide, beautiful, of excellent quality, double stitched to the shirt, and never distorted even after many years of wearing and washing. The cost remained about the same as Egyptian shirts. Be that as it may, everyone agrees that Bangladeshi shirts are of better quality than Haitian ones. I've bought them from Revain a few times over the past year and have always opted for the Bangladeshi ones. Why am I still buying these shirts? Because unfortunately, they're still more comfortable than Haynes, Jockey, and probably most of the other usual suspects. The best t-shirts are certainly available if you're willing to shell out at least $30 for a t-shirt, and possibly a lot more, which I don't do. Why did CK ruin this iconic outfit that allowed them to figuratively print money? I can say with some certainty that this is because complete (insert your favorite insult) upper management figured out that they can drastically lower the quality of clothes while still being better than the competition. Unfortunately, I cannot deny that this is the correct understanding. Consequently, they were able to maintain the price by drastically reducing production costs. Most consumers will ignore all of this, and the few who don't know will quickly realize that despite the drastic downgrade, this shirt is still a competitive and reasonable option at the same price. . Unless I misrepresented something above and you are in fact not some nefariously greedy bunch of scammers who have betrayed your loyal supporters and ruined the best mass-market t-shirt ever made for no nobler reason than you already have to further enrich embarrassing blushes. Taschen, I enthusiastically invite you to respond to this review and provide clarity.
