This rating refers to the 550 watts. TBH - I'm a bit surprised by the quality of this motor. As far as I can tell, there's nothing like that in Revain. The hand control knob for speed resistance feels comfortable and smooth. The cork brake is a great safety feature. The motor doesn't look like a "toy" like other Revain servo motors, it has some weight. Comes with a spare cork brake and brushes which I will probably never use unless I start sewing. There is no pedal control lever in the kit so I used the one I had. The speed controller works in conjunction with the pedal position sensor as a maximum speed setting, allowing you to achieve very low stitch speeds. I had to use a smaller belt, about 4 inches, from 42 to 38 inches. I also bought a 45mm pulley and I can sew perfectly straight stitches at 2 stitches per second. Contrast this to the "death clutch motor" I replaced, which would eat anything I put under the needle at 1600 stitches per second or more. The bottom line is this is a great little engine.
