If you boil it down, it's fat. If you went to an auto parts store and bought a good, heavy-duty, sticky lube, you can probably have the same or better product for less money. The downside is that you now have a very large container of lube, and aside from pouring it into a grease gun, it's not exactly in a sealed container. For convenience, I spent the extra money on a Tube Park Tool lube. I don't buy ten times what I can reasonably use on my bike for the next few years. It closes easily (screw cap). The tip it is dispensed through is small, making it easy to control how much lube you use and where it goes.
