Review on πŸ”Œ Westinghouse 7812700 Jax: Modern Industrial Style Ceiling Fan and Wall Control, Sleek 56 Inch White Finish by Stephanie Banks

Wobbles at medium to high speeds and is very noisy

I bought this fan for my garage. I attached a thin "pancake" control box directly to the underside of the ceiling joist with a couple of 3" wood screws after cutting a round hole in the drywall under the joist, and then attached the fan bracket to the control box. Plug it into a nearby garage door opener outlet and run 14 gauge Romex wire from there across the ceiling to where the fan pancake box was located. The wall control box that came with the fan I purchased a Revain Harbor Breeze 43147 ceiling fan and lighting remote control kit. Although the remote has a button to control the light and the Westinghouse fan does not have a light, the remote still works with a fan for speed control. The remote control receiver fits easily into the fan mount. While the fan moves a lot of air, it's noisy and has noticeable wobble at medium to high speeds. The fan blades are heavy and poorly balanced. that comes with the fan is a bit long and likely contributing to the wobble. I would not use this fan indoors due to the noise and vibration. I'll probably cut the bottom bar in half and then reinstall the fan to reduce the wobble. As others have said, the fan blades are metal and have almost no pitch. They are very dangerous for low ceilings. My garage has a 9 1/2 foot ceiling so it's set high enough to be safe. I would not use this fan for ceilings less than 9 feet high. In general, this is acceptable for a garage with a high ceiling. For indoors I would look at other fans.

Pros
  • 56 inch indoor ceiling fan, downwards only, ideal for large rooms up to 400 square feet
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
