This is our second scratching post like this and we can't do without it! Whatever deterrent we put in the corner of the sofa, little cat claws love to scratch it, so we decided to hug them instead. My cats use this thing *aggressively*! If I had to give advice, the first and foremost would be to find a way to reinforce or provide more attachment points between the base and the scratching post. Our first failed (after a *YEAR* of abuse!) and detached from the base. There was still a lot of life left in the scraper part itself. Second, some sort of protective shield could be added that would screw into the side of the scraper that runs along the arm of the sofa/chair. The length of the sides is perfect for covering the end of the hand, but we still have plenty of snags in the fabric just behind the scratching post as our cats end up getting multiple fabric claws trying to pull on the edge of the scraper. These are just a few suggestions to improve an already great experience!
