Every time you flip the switch, the light changes color. It cycles through 3 light levels per flip. So if you prefer warmer light, you might have to flick the switch on the wall three times before you get the color you want. You cannot put it on your favorite. It also means that your room (walls, clothing, etc.) will have a different tone every time you turn on the light. At first I thought it was weird and possibly annoying, but now I've come to the conclusion that it's a good thing. I have it in my closet and can switch between the lamps to see how different objects look in different lights. I just installed it today and I doubt I'll mind over time. I love the crystal look - it's low profile but adds a touch of glamor to my wardrobe so it did exactly what I wanted.
