Review on Fine Mesh Garden Bug Netting - 72"X84" Insect Barrier With Drawstring For Fruit Trees, Blueberries & Other Plants by Joseph Rasmussen

Bags too small for any but the smallest fruit trees

Even at 72” by 84”, these bags are much too small because they are flat rectangles. Trees don’t grow in two dimensions. I’ve got 2 "columnar” apple trees that are about 3’ in diameter and 8’ in some spots, and these bags were just too tight. I even pruned off the tallest branches and a few that stuck out too much, but the bag was a tight squeeze, knocked apples off branches, and was 2’ too short to get a snug fit around the base. I’ve ordered extra lengths of netting to wrap the base of the tree and lowest fruit and just hope that keeps the maggots away. I’m not even going to try to bag the second tree and will just have to bag each individual apple.I also bought two 72” by 72” bags previously and when I found them to be too small for the larger trees, I used them on my Blushing Delight columnar trees (these are newer varieties that really do grow off a single central leader). The bags were huge on my little trees so I wrapped the excess around the base and tied it off. I’m hoping it’s snug enough to keep the pests away.

Pros
  • Used to prevent birds from eating our blue berries when we were away! Worked great!
Cons
  • My bag is 67"x 72". Not the size I bought which the seller said is a 72"x84" bag. It is unusable for me.
