Review on 🌍 Renewed Garmin Nuvi 2639LMT GPS Navigator for North America by Brian Cruz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

On the plus side, it works very similarly to previous models, making it easy to upgrade to this new one. The downside is that the software can do that.

This is my second Nuvi GPS. The bottom line is I wouldn't do any serious road trips without them, but there are some issues. Garmin needs to update its user interface, on the plus side it works very similar to previous models making it easier to migrate to this new one. The downside is that software that might have been cutting edge a decade ago isn't as fast these days. Garmin would like to see MapQuest input trip information, making it easy to customize routes, stops, and alternate routes. While Garmin offers some flexibility, it can be cumbersome to fine-tune or redirect. Also, saved destinations like places to shop are outdated compared to Google Maps, which is annoying. I found myself using my phone for things like finding the location of the newest Wal-Mart. The screen, while bright and large, is polished and well reflective. It looks good from a marketing point of view, but in use this glossy screen reflects light. Older Garmin models had a matte finish, which I would happily return to. A HUGE plus is that Garmin doesn't rely on cell towers for navigation. This is a major reason to use Garmin on your phone when traveling to remote areas. Our most recent trip took us through vast, unpopulated areas of the Southwest where there was no cell service, but our Garmin didn't miss a beat. It loads fast and finds satellites fast. Mine came with no printed manual and a computer interface is absolutely essential for initial setup, instructions and loading the card. The device will not work at all without first being connected to a computer with an internet connection. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase. After daily use after traveling 6 weeks, he became a good friend although he has some bad habits. But it is definitely a goalkeeper. Using it in conjunction with my phone in congested cities makes it a near-perfect navigation aid.
