I've had this filter for five months now and have had ups and downs. It would be nice to know how to set up an aquarium for specific fish or turtle species. I have two turtles that can swim and I have found that this filter cannot be used with a half full tank, it needs to be almost full for it to filter and work properly. Also, you need to fix the environment to make it work. Searched youtube for different settings for finding fish, settings for turtles, had to google the correct filter setting and environment (filter) for my tank. So if you run the filter and need to change the media, loading the filter with media can be difficult as it affects how your filter is primed for the water supply. 1) Close the valves on the supply and return lines and remove the hoses. Place the entire filter in the kitchen sink (you'll need space) Make sure you have a bucket when you remove the hoses and rinse the filters naturally and carbon filters. 4) Filament filters get very uncomfortable, sometimes usually the first time. 5) Look at your settings on YouTube (aquarium size, what kind of fish or turtles etc_6 ) Replace the filter material in the order described on YouTube. 7) Here's the key, fill the canister to the top grate and replace the top pump. 8) Hold down the fill button and fill water into the inlet hose which I think is blue until a jet of water comes out of the outlet 9) Connect the hose to the pump and plug it in, you need to pump the fill button, until you get good flow from a steady stop, and then start again when it slows down until you get good flow. This works best for me and I spent less time topping up the water on the fill button like crazy, it all took a lot of work aside from the one mentioned. Very good product, recommend and make sure you search youtube or google for your average setup. Much luck
