The device comes with two thin magnets, one of which has an adhesive backing. I have an Otterbox Commuter case for my iPhone and put a non-stick magnet in the Otterbox. Others may need to use a holding magnet. The instructions clearly explain the various options. The device has a clip that is inserted into the ventilation grille. In my car, the clip was a bit thick in many places, but I easily found an area that worked well. The head of the device rotates easily so my phone is clearly visible. The iPhone 6S is held very securely, but can be removed easily. When the device is not in use, it is unobtrusive. This is exactly what I wanted/needed.
