Review on πŸ“Ό Panasonic DMR-EZ17K DVD Recorder with ATSC Tuner Black: High-quality recording and playback in one device by Josh Dyer

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Inferior to DMR ES-15

Bought this unit for a digital tuner. It replaces my similar Panasonic DMR ES15. Basically, with the exception of the tuner, the settings, controls and remote control are the same, so it was easy for me and works great. I only use DVD-RAM and haven't had any problems although I haven't tried formatting and playing on other players. The reason I only give it 3 stars is because I can't help but compare it to the less expensive ES15 and even an older Panasonic VCR. S15 is immune to jerks. You don't have to remember to turn off the device to start recording, it just records. When you watch something on the disc, you will be warned and the recording will start. When setting up future programs for recording, the unit will indicate a time conflict by blinking if you are dubbing 2 programs. Even my VCR made it! When searching forwards and backwards, the device shows you in minutes/sec. to where you are right now. wise. Neither of these things apply to the EZ17. If you forgot to turn off the device, watch something else, or quit programs, you're screwed. The device does not record. Are you looking for something? Forget the convenience of a time display. It only shows + or - 1. My advice: if you don't need a digital tuner, go for the DMR ES15.
