I opened it and used it immediately upon arrival. I recently adopted a dog that lived in a coastal town (20-30 degrees cooler year-round). She hairs like I've never seen before! The rubber brush actually lifts the hairs up a lot more than my vacuum, but the handle doesn't stay in place when I push forward OR pull toward me. The knob allows the rubber to keep turning without getting stuck and in use comes loose after a few hits so I have to put my head back on. Not sure if this is a "fix" but you may need to find a wooden handle. suck by rubbing the rubber? I do not know. but it's annoying.
