Be sure to read the installation instructions included in the package. I made the mistake of downloading the manual for this directly from Ubiquiti, which unfortunately was for a much newer firmware than the one it came with. One day I read the manual that came with it and was able to get in, set it up and update the firmware. I used it to set up an external point-to-multipoint bridge for Internet access to several remote rental houses. . At our site, it acts as a bridge to four LBE-5AC-GEN2-US located at different distances up to 1.4 km. With a channel width of 40MHz, I can get 150-250Mbps throughput over 4 distant antennas at very low power. Aligning the antennas turned out to be an easier task than I thought. Most of the distant antennas are not visible from this access point (because: trees), but pointing them in a general direction and using their built-in tuning software was easy. I figured I would have to match the radio's output power and channel frequencies, but both this antenna and the distant antennas adjusted their own output power and channel bands once they identified themselves. The only thing I really needed to set up was the wireless encryption and the mode to "PtMP". In the relatively remote valley where I place it, I don't worry too much about competing signals or regulatory interference (it's 5GHz, so no major concerns from regulators here in the US). If I installed them in a residential area I would take a lot more precautions as their range is huge compared to a regular WiFi device. I really wish this device would also act as an outdoor WiFi hotspot. too, and not just a bridge, but so that it can be controlled with UniFi software. These AirMax devices come with their own cloud management software, which seems more suited to ISPs than more localized networks. Maybe I'll give it a try one day, but for now HTTP's own internal management mechanism works fine.
