In comparison with the super budget 1.8, the 1.4 glass is much better in many respects. The first is, of course, the build quality; convenient number of manual focus; excellent aperture, HA - at a minimum level. I have been using the lens recently on a 550d carcass for about a month (prior to that, I photographed on f1.8 II). After purchasing 1.4 and participating in my very first photo shoot, I was left with the regret that I had initially purchased 1.8 rather than 1.4. It is important to keep in mind that this glass may be used with either crop or fullframe carcasses, so its adaptability should not be overlooked. For me, the price is reasonable (before the problem with the dollar, the price was even better), but it's not a waste of money to pay 18 thousand for such glass because it's worth it.
