Review on πŸ”‹ NOCO GENIUS1: Advanced Fully Automatic Temperature Compensation technology by Kyle Hood

Happy with this little charger

Good charger, easy to use. Temperature compensation is a key feature and the fact that this device clearly indicates that it has this feature is excellent. The operating instructions recommend using a 1A block for batteries up to 30Ah. That means it's not actually designed for car batteries. Even block 2A in the instructions is designed for 40Ah batteries. I understand that if the battery is 50% DoD or higher, the charger may take too long and shut down. But based on experience, should the car you drive want to keep the battery charged and only provide long term maintenance/trickle charging, a 1A or 2A charger should be very good even if it is much larger. I've used this on Group 49 and 29 90-120Ah batteries, but still I wouldn't expect it to fully charge a drained and depleted battery any time soon. This is great for service and float for a rarely used vehicle. This shouldn't be your only charger if you intend to use it to restore dead or drained batteries - the 5A version or ideally the 10A version should be used for that. One star deducted for two things: First, I would love to have a small LED setup like the 2A design and up. Installing a blinking LED on the 1A block is very functional, but I would prefer multi-level displays even if they are very small. Second, the 12V SAE barrel connector is a standard connector. NOCO adapters are expensive and frankly not very good. Also, I added another connection point to add resistance and potential moisture ingress. I wish they would use standard SAE forks and, if anything, make a more waterproof or specific clutch for that fork.

Pros
  • Meet GENIUS1 - Similar to our G750, only better. It's 35% smaller and delivers 35% more power. It's an all-in-one solution - battery charger, battery conditioner, float charger and battery desulfator.
Cons
  • Not bad
