My grandmother had a grater like this. It was so old that it started to rust. I bought it because it had different sized barrels for cutting. I used it to cut up potatoes for au gratin and for breakfast. I've grated cheese several times. Unfortunately for me it is difficult to keep it closed and rotate the barrel. The potatoes weren't bad, but trying to grate the parmasan was harder than I'd like. It looks good and seems very durable. But I find I have to squeeze it really hard for it to rub. My old man was great.
