The aluminum alloy base is the true value of this product. An ABS plastic phone/tablet is good, but not great. Personally, I didn't feel the fit on my tablet was reliable. I also tried using it for my phone (by turning it sideways) but that wasn't very secure either. This prevented me from plugging the cable from the remote into the phone, but in its defence, it's not designed for that. The base is great. Very well built. It fits the controller perfectly and the height for the connected device is perfect. The ball jack seems to be universal because I was able to attach the phone holder to the bike mount and it fit and worked perfectly. Overall I'm happy with the product and if you have other phone or tablet holders that you're happy with, you can easily switch like I did if you don't like the one that comes with it.
