I'm not sure if the one we received is defective or if all of them do this. You have the normal battery pack inside the star, with the screw on battery door and small black on/off switch. Then, there is a surface push button on/off switch on the front of the star. When you push the button, the colors will change randomly, but this is supposed to turn it on and off. There is also supposed to be an automatic timer that turns it off. Well, it never turns off. unless you open up the star and slide the switch on the battery pack. The lights also fade in and out as they change colors, they don't "twinkle" at all, which is supposed to be the point of the toy. Aside from these issues, the star was softer than expected, and bigger than expected.
