This tray works great as a desk and also as a food tray when I'm sitting on the couch. It adjusts to size and the rubber pads on the bottom of the rounded legs protect my furniture. When I received it, it was covered in dust. I wiped it down and up as the cup holder fell out. I put it back in place and now it won't stay up unless the tray is perfectly vertical. Nothing special, but I certainly didn't force it, but that's it. Everything is exactly the same with the pen tray - if you press lightly from below, it slides out. Overall I love this tray and will use it every day but a few tweaks to the way it is made would raise my rating.
