Strong, won't break (e.g. the so-called 50lb Command Strips will break if you hang 10lbs on them). It holds up well and won't break as it's made of thick metal. However, you have to make sure that you set it up in a way that it can support the weight you will be using it for (I use it to hang my purse). You can use the included glue to stick it to the wall (tile) or the included drywall anchors and mounting screws. The reason a pinion is missing is because when tightening the tiny screw that holds the bezel over the screw area, the bezel doesn't sit straight and level. [The faceplate is what I call the rectangular top of the towel hook.]
