I often have problems with thumb pain on mountain bikes so I tried the Ergon GA3, the ergonomic Solodrive grips and these. The shapes of these three grips appear to be the same at first glance, but actually offer different levels of thumb comfort. The area to focus on is the transition from the wing to the thumb area. On the GA3 you can see how it narrows dramatically in the middle of the grip and offers a large thumb relief. In contrast, the Solodrive does not taper in the middle, which means that the thumb is not relieved. The BW grips sit somewhere in between and offer good relief, but aren't as good as the Ergon. Both the BW grips and the Solodrive grips use cheap, hard rubber that doesn't dampen the small feedback and vibrations. The plastic of the BW grips feels very sticky and rough at first, but can wear down over time. On the other hand, the Ergon grips use a very soft and high-quality rubber that not only absorbs shock, but also feels very comfortable if you ride without gloves for once. I would recommend BW grips for riders on a budget. But the Ergon GA3 are still the best grips I've ever used.
