Review on πŸ“¦ Sauder Shoal Creek Storage Chest in Soft White Finish: Stylish Organization Solution by Billy Danaher

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice and easy to assemble but short lifespan

I bought two of these almost a year ago and am very happy with them. They were easy enough to put together (maybe not for a beginner, but still easy and the instructions were awesome) and looked good, like a much more expensive product. They fit perfectly under the windowsill in the playroom and offer space for children's costumes and toys. Perhaps the best part was the soft closing system. However, it didn't hold up as well as I had hoped. The locking mechanism on one of them broke a few months ago. I assumed my 3 year old must have mishandled it but I watched the second one come loose and disconnect last week and there was no rough play or mishandling. My kids don't sit in the box and pull the soft close mechanism. My husband tried reinstalling the hardware but it was splitting the lid apart and wouldn't stay inside. The back of the box is almost completely detached. My two children aged 3 and 5 use these boxes almost every day. They put toys on top of boxes and sometimes (rarely) sit on them. Each of them weighs about 40 pounds. I think with lighter use they will probably hold up well. They are not ideal for a heavily used playroom. I think if we had lived a full year or more I would have given four stars instead of three. It's honestly good value for money, but I feel like both items have been so completely destroyed in such a relatively (for furniture) short time that I can't rate them higher than three stars.

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Everything is fine
