Review on FOXWELL NT530 Multi System Diagnostic Scanner Tools & Equipment : Diagnostic, Test & Measurement Tools by Jeffrey Kue

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked on 2018 XC90 EPB Service (rear brake pads and discs)

Ordered through Revain and Quick Ship Auto. Fast shipping directly from Quick Ship Auto. Received a few days before Revane's prediction. The NT530 was ready to use on my 2018 Volvo XC90. I bought it specifically for the EPB service. I tried 2 other scanners that promised EPB but none of them did it for my 2018 or later Volvo. At the time of writing, the NT530 was the only one capable of handling EPB. Many thanks to Matt from Quick Ship Auto. I had initial problems (this isn't the NT530's fault, although the instructions for the NT530 could have been clearer - Foxwell is a Chinese company and the instructions use broken English). I called Quick Ship Auto and Matt answered right away. He was unfamiliar with my particular machine but offered to contact Foxwell and get an answer for me. I decided to read the XC90 manual first to see if I could figure out the problem first (which I did). Anyway, I had one more question that I wrote to him. He replied immediately and when he didn't know the answer he contacted Foxwell and got back to me within 24 hours with a reply. Thank you for the excellent customer service. Regarding those using EPB on an NT530 on a Volvo (below is just my experience on a 2018 XC90) I had to set the XC90 to Mode II (rather than Mode I). This is a mode I've never used before. Plug in the NT530 and turn the start button (no brake pedal) and hold for 5 seconds until the engine warning light comes on. The headlights also light up when you have it on automatic. If you hold it too short, you'll switch to I mode (your screens and radio work, but you don't see the check engine light). In II mode, go to EPB service in the menu and select "Activate" at the bottom. You will hear your brake motors turning. When it's done you should see the NT530 tell you that Brake Service Mode is 'active'. Once this is confirmed in the NT530, turn off the vehicle and replace the brake pads and discs as normal. I didn't run the car because the XC90 manual warns that Mode II drains the car battery and the car battery is needed to disable the EPB service mode. When finished, turn the machine back on and go into Mode II (I got a "brakes temporarily unavailable" warning on the screen. This disappeared when I restarted the machine after exiting service mode). I chose "Exit" below (I assume this means exiting service mode). Please wait until I get confirmation that the brake maintenance mode is "inactive" on the NT530. Turn off the machine. Remember that you have to open the car door and wait a few seconds to turn off the car completely. Close the door. Restart the car. Depress the brake pedal fully. Apply and release the electronic parking brake several times with the parking brake button. Did a test drive, everything ok.
