Review on 📻 Get Connected: BAOFENG BF-888S Two-Way Radios - Double Pack by Johnny Bloomer

I don't give 5 stars because they are good radios, but because they are good for the price. This HT is an incredibly simple UHF radio. I bought these to cannibalize and hook up to a Raspberry Pi for use on the Allstar. After measuring, the high/low power setting (by software) makes no difference and always seems to output around 1W. ) Standard channel programming contains many illegally used frequencies, even with an amateur radio license. Must be reprogrammed with Chirp software and USB cable before use. 3) They operate on GMRS/FRS frequencies but are also illegal as they are not FCC certified for that use. If you are using them for GMRS/FRS I would definitely advise against using FRS frequencies as they are limited to 0.5W and this radio cannot run that low without a (very simple) hardware mod. GMRS frequencies can be used up to 50 watts, so while it is illegal to use this radio for it, it is still within the "spirit of the law" regarding ERP.
