My wife loves to break ice when we visit Epcot. We wanted to find a way to make something with our own hands to enjoy at home. We saw a similar machine at Macy's, but Amazon had better and cheaper options, so we gave it a try. That works great! He had a small gathering ready to go. Simply fill the top with ice (we've found crushed ice from the front of our fridge works best), twist the top/lid and it shaves. It's a little noisy, but not a big deal. Makes a perfect bowl of shaved ice. In fact, no purification is required since it is only water. Just let it dry. We also bought several bottles of flavored syrup from Amazon. Delicious! Our dogs love a simple bowl of crushed ice on a hot day.
